Our engagement

Sericulture and the silk industry, long mainstays of Tomioka silk mill, have declined under pressure from the influx of low-cost foreign production. Tomioka silk, whose name is etched in history, has however experienced a significant resurgence of attention following the registration of Tomioka silk mill as a Unesco world heritage site. It was on this occasion that the Tomioka silk certification committee, established by the Tomioka silk promotion association, launched its own certification system in 2016 for attractive silk products that meet a number of criteria. Among the products that have passed both the project and finished product certification examinations, the committee, when it has recognized and approved the excellence of a product both from the point of view of design and originality, can issue a "Platinum mark of Tomioka silk".
In addition to guaranteeing the place of production and the quality of the silk to the consumer, we also aim to promote local sericulture through the democratization of “Tomioka silk” certified products. Democratization is a tool for promoting Tomioka silk brand and transmit and develop Japan silk culture.
